A time to act – new members needed

There has probably never been a time when increased membership of the Marble Hill Society could do so much to help preserve and enhance the accessibility and appreciation Marble Hill House and its Park.

Because of a cut in the government grant of one third, English Heritage has had to reduce their staff by a third and this has had an extensive knock-on effect on access at Marble Hill House.  The permanent staff has been reduced from five to three and access is now restricted to scheduled guided tours at weekends, or by pre booked tours during the week. For the general public the days are over when they could simply turn up to pass a pleasant hour or two amongst the pictures, looking at the Chinoiserie and imagining the lives led here

But for members of the Marble Hill Society all is not lost. There are still the regular meetings, concerts and parties when members freely enjoy the house. And now, as a concession to members, the house manager, Rheme Fordham, has agreed to allow members to go round the house at a mutually convenient time when the house is NOT open to the general public.

A current Membership Card entitles you to free entry to Marble Hill House. There is also a regular programme of talks and events which take place at the house, open to members.
